Refereeing in Women’s Football: WAFU-A Organizes a Day of Exchange on the Laws of the Game

On the sidelines of the WAFU-A U20 Women’s Tournament Guinea-Bissau 2026, a session on refereeing was held this Sunday in the conference room of the September 24 Stadium.The objective was to strengthen the skills of the women’s football representatives from the participating national teams and the officials holding strategic positions within the member associations.

Led by Ms. Ndeye Fatou Seye and Mr. Sanusie Rachid, two CAF referee instructors, this workshop focused on essential topics such as refereeing in women’s football and the Laws of the Game. These discussions allowed participants to deepen their understanding and application of the rules and practices of refereeing in the context of women’s football.

The WAFU-A, as a strategic partner of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), is committed to promoting and developing women’s football leadership within its member associations.

Addressing the participants, WAFU-A Executive Director Mapathé Gaye emphasized the importance of these exchange and information sessions held during each tournament. “We are working with the Referees Committee to increase the number of these introductory sessions to foster a better understanding of the Laws of the Game. These sessions aim to share with you, those of you who hold the primary responsibilities on the sidelines, to improve your understanding of refereeing decisions,” he added.
