WAFU-A U20 Women’s Tournament: Senegal Triumphs in Guinea-Bissau

The 3rd edition of the WAFU-A U20 Women’s Tournament, held in Guinea-Bissau, concluded yesterday, Sunday, with the 5th and final day of matches. This competition brought together five nations: Guinea-Bissau (host country), The Gambia, Liberia, Mali, and Senegal, and was played in a round-robin format.

At the end of the tournament, Senegal, with a flawless record, claimed the trophy. Liberia secured second place, while The Gambia completed the podium in third.

Regarding individual awards, the trophy for best goalkeeper of the tournament was won by Awa Baldé of Senegal. Her teammate, Sokhna Nogaye Tall Pene, was awarded the title of best player of the competition. Makasian V. Saryon of Liberia, with a total of 5 goals, was crowned the tournament’s top scorer. In addition to their third-place finish, The Gambia was honored for their exemplary sportsmanship with the tournament’s Fair Play Award.

We eagerly await the next edition, which will be held in 2028.
