WAFU A Delegates Arrive in The Gambia for Landmark General Assembly Weekend

All nine Member Associations represented in Banjul as the zone’s football family gathers for a landmark weekend

The Gambia has welcomed football leaders and delegates from across West Africa as all nine WAFU Zone A Member Associations gather in Banjul for a landmark weekend of meetings, football and key institutional events.

Delegates began arriving in The Gambia on Friday, 4 September, ahead of the WAFU A Ordinary General Assembly (OGA), which will take place on Sunday, 6 September.

The gathering brings together representatives from The Gambia, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Cape Verde, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Mali, Liberia and Mauritania, with the Smiling Coast welcoming the wider WAFU A family for one of the zone’s most important events of the year.

Among the prominent football personalities already in The Gambia are former WAFU A President and CAF Executive Committee Member Augustin Senghor, alongside FIFA Council Member, CAF Executive Committee Member and President of the Mauritanian Football Federation (FFRIM), Ahmed Yahya.

The OGA forms part of a packed weekend for football in The Gambia, which is simultaneously hosting the CAF Women’s Champions League Qualifiers WAFU A.

The programme continues on Saturday, 5 September, with meetings of the Finance and Legal Commissions, before the WAFU A Executive Committee convenes for its meeting ahead of Sunday’s General Assembly.

The Ordinary General Assembly on Sunday will bring together the representatives of all nine Member Associations to consider key matters concerning the administration and continued development of football across the WAFU A zone.

Following the OGA, a post-General Assembly press conference will be held to communicate the key outcomes and decisions of the meeting.

A football finale to a landmark weekend

Sunday will also see the conclusion of the CAF Women’s Champions League Qualifiers WAFU A, with USFAS Bamako of Mali taking on Senegal’s Aigle de Medina in the final.

The highly anticipated final will be played at the Independence Stadium in Bakau at 17:00, bringing the regional football community together for a fitting conclusion to the competition.

The weekend will then culminate in another historic moment with the official inauguration of the WAFU A headquarters in The Gambia, marking an important milestone in the zone’s institutional development.

With football leaders, delegates and stakeholders from across West Africa gathered in Banjul, The Gambia is set to become the centre of WAFU A football administration and competition this weekend as the zone looks ahead to a new chapter of growth and development.
