Young Scorpions Hand Over WAFU-A U17 Trophy to President Barrow

The Gambia U17 team presented their WAFU-A U17 Championship trophy to President Adama Barrow on Friday at the Independence Stadium in Bakau, following their victory in Dakar last weekend.

The young Scorpions were introduced to supporters shortly after the senior national team kicked off their PAMOJA 2027 AFCON qualifying campaign with a 2-1 victory over Somalia.

President Barrow welcomed the players and technical team before posing for photographs with the squad and his family.

The team subsequently took a lap around the stadium, receiving applause from the crowd.

The Gambia secured the WAFU-A U17 title after defeating neighbours Senegal on penalties in Sunday’s final in Dakar.

The result also secured their qualification for the 2027 U17 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

President Barrow has invited the team to State House for a reception to mark their achievement and qualification for next year’s continental tournament.
